I've been in an accident, what is the first thing I should do?

The first thing you should do is phone Manitoba Public Insurance to inform them you have been in an accident. They will take down all of the information, and set you up with an adjuster and date to have your vehicle estimated. It is then decided whether or not your vehicle is repairable or a total loss. If repairable you will be given papers to bring to a Manitoba Public Insurance Accredited shop like us.


Can I phone for an estimate?

If your car has been estimated by Manitoba Public Insurance within the last 3 months already, you can phone and give us your claim number. Your car does not need to be seen until you bring it in. If you are not having your work done through an insurance claim, it is always best to bring your vehicle down to properly assess your vehicle for an estimate.


Can I choose to take my car to any repair shop?

If you're using a Manitoba Public Insurance claim to repair your vehicle you can choose any Manitoba Public Insurance Accredited repair facility you wish.


What is a deductible and who do I pay it to?

A deductible is used by Manitoba Public Insurance to control premiums because they help control claim costs. The deductible is paid to the shop doing your repairs. Paying your deductible is also dependent on who is at fault in the accident.

How long will the repairs take?

When you schedule your repair, we will give you a tentative completion date. Your repairs will be completed in a timely fashion without compromising quality standards for the sake of time. You could also take advantage of our courtesy car while we will be fixing your car.

Are you open on the weekends?

No, we are not open on the weekends. We are open Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm.

Do you use O.E.M. (Original equipment parts)?

Our commitment to quality means that we keep you completely informed about all aspects of the job while we are repairing your vehicle. While we would prefer to use new original equipment parts (O.E.M.) instead of aftermarket or generic parts (replacement parts made by a third party manufacturer) YOU are our customer and we will do everything we can to work with your insurance company on your behalf. We could also use the brand of your choice for any aftermarket alterations for your vehicle.

Can my paint be matched exactly?

At Wayne Johnston Auto Body & Glass our technicians knowledgeable and trained and we utilize only the latest technology in computerized paint colour matching.

How long should I wait before I wash or wax my newly painted vehicle?

You should wait a minimum of 1 week before washing and/or waxing your newly painted vehicle.

Do you also do mechanical work?

Yes we do. We have a licensed auto mechanics and we do a wide variety of repairs and restoration.

It's a small dent, do I really need repair?

It is always important to have body damage analyzed by a professional repair technicians as it could have caused hidden problems as well. An accident that resulted in a small dent could have actually caused a bent frame or some other issue as well.

Can I just pull the dent myself?

While there are take home kits that advertise the ability to let anyone repair a dent these should not be used. More than likely you'll end up doing more harm than good, such as scratching the paint.

Why is it important to take care of paint scratches?

If paint is scratched or otherwise damaged it will result in bare metal being exposed to the elements. This will quickly lead to rust issues, which can be very detrimental to your car's structural integrity and looks.

Will my insurance cover the cost of all the necessary repairs?

Do I have to use a shop recommended by my insurance?

It is very important to remember that you have the right to select the shop that repairs your car after an accident. While your MPI may provide you with a list of preferred shops you don't have to use any of them.

Do I need an estimate first?

When your vehicle is damaged in a collision, an estimate is not the first thing that you should obtain. The first order of business is to determine who will pay for the damage. In most cases, your vehicle will require some disassembly of damaged parts in order for us to produce an accurate estimate of your damage. Because of this, the estimating process is affected by the needs of the paying party. All insurance companies have different claims procedures and we will let you know the most efficient way to handle your claim. In addition, we will assist you with the claims process. You don't need to run around wasting your time gathering estimates and claims handling. Many times it is better to leave the car with us and have the insurance company inspect it with us; this can prevent discrepancies that may delay repairs. By the way, we do provide free, computerized estimates.

What information should I bring to the shop?

Bring your MPI claim number and the name of the contact person. We will take it from there.

How soon after repairs may I wash my car?

Since Wayne Johnston Auto Body bakes your vehicle's finish, it may be washed right away. We do, however, ask that you wait 30 days after repairs to wax your car.

How do you dispose of your waste?

Wayne Johnston Auto Body is very concerned about the environment. All waste is recycled whenever possible. The balance is shipped with an EPA approved hauler to a redemption center that converts it to a safe fuel product.

If I have a deductible, how is it paid?

Your deductible is collected by Wayne Johnston Auto Body when you come to pick up your completed vehicle.

Does MPI company cover scratches?

Most insurance policies cover scratches under their comprehensive coverage. A distinct advantage is that these claims do not necessarily affect your insurance rates for collision coverage.

Will my rate be increased?

We really can't tell if your rates will be increased or not, since we only handle the repair of your vehicle. Your agent or MPI should be able to tell you if your rates will change.

Since the other party is at fault why do I have to pay my deductible?

Your deductible is what you agreed to pay when you purchased your policy. If you are pursuing a claim under your policy, you may have a deductible. If the other party is at fault, MPI should try to pursue reimbursement of your deductible through that other party.

What if I need a rental vehicle?

INSURED'S: If MPI is paying for the repairs you may have an endorsement for Loss of Use on your policy. Your insurance policy will spell out the amount of rental coverage exactly. Ask your insurance claims representative for details.

CLAIMANTS: If the other party is paying for the repairs they will also reimburse you for reasonable transportation while your vehicle is in the repair facility. This should include the daily rate, daily license fee, plus tax. Insurance on your personal vehicle may extend to your rental vehicle, so we recommend that you check with MPI.

What does it mean if my vehicle is a total loss?

It means that it would not be cost effective to have the vehicle repaired due to the damages it sustained.

What happens when my vehicle is deemed a total loss?

MPI has their Total Loss Specialist run a local market valuation specific to the year, make, model, condition and mileage of your vehicle. The Specialist will then contact you regarding the valuation. This should include the vehicle replacement cost and tax and license fees. MPI will also pay for any charges to your vehicle at the shop and pick up your vehicle for sale at auction to a salvage yard.
